Blakemores Solicitors Profile
Blakemores is recognised as a progressive and innovative regional practice focusing on commercial, private client and community-funded work.
With three offices spanning the Midlands our staff totals 15 partners, 140 fee earners and in excess of 150 support staff.
All of our lawyers specialise in their respective areas of law at partner and legal assistant level, which enables Blakemores to offer clients a high degree of expertise and an exceptional depth of support and experience. We are committed to recruiting, developing and promoting the most creative lawyers in their fields to support the business of building new and innovative solutions to our clients' needs. Blakemores people are highly professional, self-motivated, independent lateral thinkers with a team player mentality.
In the Legal 500 2004 Edition, Blakemores maintained its status as the largest high street practice in the area and moving up one place in the rankings to be placed 7th in the West Midlands.
The Commercial Dispute Resolution team headed up by Eddie Flannagan has an active business client portfolio providing advice in areas such as finance, employment, partnership, insurance, construction, property, and insolvency. The Commercial Debt Recovery Group deals with contentious and non-contentious issues in relation to companies and individuals and a major achievement of 2004 was the development of the industry specific debt collection unit for the automotive industry and in particular Citroen Contract Motoring.
Delivering clear and practical advice of a consistently high quality, the Family and Child Care Departments manage all aspects of family law at high levels of complexity and in the appellate courts, which highlights the range of knowledge available to clients across the three offices and together forms the largest Family Team in the West Midlands area.
The firm continues to achieve national recognition in Claimant Personal Injury. In 2003 it took the unprecedented step of creating its own independent insurance arm, known as “Perception”. Its creation stirred up controversy in the insurance world, being the first indication of a law firm altering its business model to incorporate insurance services. The Department continues to go from strength to strength attracting national award nominations and building an unprecedented reputation.
The strategic move of joining forces with niche Litigation Firm GMH bolstered Blakemores Employment Department with the appointment of highly respected employment specialist Dean Morris as Lead Partner. The expansion of the Employment Team ensures that our full-time specialists are now well equipped to assist in all aspects of employment law from preparing contracts of employment, advising on dismissals and redundancies, drafting and implementing staff handbooks to representing clients in the Employment Tribunal and Court cases. We are looking forward to the challenge of developing the team further and with Blakemores backing we are confident that the department will soon be in a position to rival existing employment teams in the area.
Property continues to flourish with the Commercial Property teams managing landlord and tenant matters and all aspects of the acquisition, financing and disposal of freehold and leasehold property, from offices and shops to large residential and industrial developments. The Residential Property departments have dramatically expanded under the watchful eye of Justine Matthews with the firm winning major contracts from financial institutions and estate agency groups for the provision of bulk conveyancing services.
Immigration is a relatively new practice but continues to develop with the creation of a niche US Emigration Department, the only one outside London.
Private Client teams offer extensive experience, supporting the firm’s reputation for managing the affairs of wealthy private clients to rival the top Midlands firms. The team advises individuals and institutions, both here and internationally, on tax, trusts, estate restructuring, probate, trusts administration and management.
The firm's profile in the Midland’s legal marketplace is growing as reflected in our ranking of 7th in the West Midlands in The Legal 500 2004 edition. The firm remains focused upon the importance of the personal touch, recognising the need to remain accessible and encouraging communication with both clients and staff.
The firm’s goal is to focus on the client to ensure we continue to meet and exceed expectations whilst improving internal processes to ensure we deliver a “best in class” service at all times and create an environment in the workplace, which encourages teamwork and initiative.
Blakemores is accredited with Investors in People, the Law Society's quality assurance standard LEXCEL, the Legal Services Commission Quality Mark and is currently working towards the prestigious Leadership and Management standard.
